Bonnie's Going Greener

With an eye on helping America’s gardeners protect the environment, we introduced a new line of earth-friendly products this season under the “Going Greener for You” banner.

“Bonnie’s Going Greener for You” is a company-wide effort toward environmentally friendly products. “We have a double goal for our greener mission,” says Dennis Thomas, General Manager of Bonnie. “We’re dedicated to giving our customers earth-friendly products, but products that perform as well as or better than conventional products.” National television coverage, our website, and store “how to” literature now include the “Bonnie’s Going Greener for You” commitment.

Included in the first phase of "Bonnie’s Going Greener for You" mission are:

  • Exclusive biodegradable peatpots
  • Jumbo biodegradeable fiber pots
  • New recycling and reuse practices and facilities

Bonnie Biodegradable Peatpots

Peatpots, made of the same peat moss that is used to supplement garden soils, are 100 percent biodegradable. They prevent transplant shock by allowing the roots to remain intact from container to soil. The peat also encourages healthy root development. The only pot of its kind available, Bonnie’s peatpots can be put into the soil “pot, plant, and all”, as our national television spots state. Remove the label, tear off the bottom of the pot and “plant the whole thing.” As the peatpot disintegrates, the plant roots grow through the peat and into the surrounding soil.

Bonnie’s exclusive peatpots have already prevented more than 100 million pounds of plastic from ending up in landfills. They've also dramatically reduced energy and petroleum required in the manufacture of plastic pots. Bonnie plants, grown in peatpots, are available at garden centers all across the country. We are the country's largest wholesaler of vegetable and herb plants for  home gardeners.

Jumbo Fiber Pots

Bonnie’s Biodegradable Jumbo Fiber Pot is made of 100 percent recycled paper product. Like the peatpot, the fiber pot reduces energy and petroleum use and prevents millions of pounds of plastic from entering our landfills. The fiber pot can also be planted directly into the soil, reducing plant shock and giving your plant a healthy head start. The fiber material quickly disintegrates allowing the plant roots to grow into the surrounding soil.

Recycling Facility

Last year, we opened our first recycling facility at our headquarters to reuse and recycle supplies, tags, pots and plant container trays.

Bonnie Plant Farm is dedicated to continuing and expanding our greener mission to provide earth-friendly, environmentally safe gardening products.
