Use these general resources in the shaded box to the right in addition to the plant or project-specific information throughout our site to become a well-informed, successful gardener! Although they may seem a little dry, some of these sources are like the frog prince--great but undervalued because at first they don’t look so good.

Learn how to handle and plant Bonnie Peat Pots with step-by-step instructions. Start out right. It is crucial to success.

Be prepared for spring and fall frosts. Find Frost Dates in your area to prevent damage to plants.

Are you in the zone?  Know which herbs and flowers grow best in your garden zone.

Check on drought conditions in your region. Be prepared to use water wisely and collect rainwater. This map is updated weekly.

Get help from your local Extension office. Some states are better than others at this, but in general, Extension provides good local information.

Check out the Master Gardeners in your state as both a resource to answer questions and a source for improving your own garden skills. This program, sponsored by the Extension service and  land grant universities, offers a great way to get reliable, basic garden training from professionals. It's also a great way to meet other gardeners.
