Coleus proves that you can have great color without a single flower. Try its bold leaves in beds and containers.

Coleus

(Solenostemon scutellaroides)
ANNUAL • PART SHADE TO SHADE
  • Height: 12 to 24 inches
  • Spacing: 9 to 15 inches

Coleus has brilliant leaves that brighten shady garden areas, especially when combined with ferns, impatiens, hostas, and other shade-loving plants.

Whether planted singly or used in groups for a mass of color, coleus is a great plant that will give you color throughout the warm season. It is especially appreciated in wet sesons when too much rain is really hard on flowers, but the leaves of coleus just get better.

Plant after danger of frost is past. Space transplants 9 to 15 inches apart. Pinch off the flowers when they appear to keep plants bushy. Keep soil evenly moist.
