This basil has a wonderful, clean, fresh citrus scent. It is a different scent from other basils because of the concentration of citral, the same compound that gives a lemony fragrance to lemon thyme and lemon balm. Other basils have more of a clove-anise, or cinnamon-like fragrance and flavor. Add lemon basil to a collection of basils that include Sweet Basil, Thai Basil, and Cinnamon Basil for variety of seasoning options. Lemon Basil is great with grilled fish, shrimp salad, and pasta dishes.
